While installing SQL Server 2008 Express edition Service pack 1 (x64) for a Windows server 2008 R2 machine, I encountered the following error:
Invoke or BeginInvoke cannot be called on a control until the window handle has been created.
Went through lots of posts reg. this earlier none of which worked. So here,s what I tried….
Right click on the setup (SQLEXPR_x64_ENU) –> Click on troubleshoot compatibility –>it takes you through a window..(i dnt remember v clearly….)–>Takes you to a page to show what changes have been made to make it compatible with your OS, finally –>click on “Start the program”
You would be surprised how well it runs!!

create temp directory under c:\
I had the very same problem on a machine with win7 professional os. Creating “temp” directory under c:\ drive did not solve my problem , but “run as administrator” option works fine.Thank you Paballo Mogorosi :)
