Glenn Henry Part:
Behind me is the die plot of our new processor. It's our brand new architecture. It's code name is "Isaiah".
The architecture is revolutionary becouse we've been able to double the performance of our current parts through architecture, but keeping the power the same. That on the surface seems impossible. And to do that, what we had to do is bring totally new architecture that has hundreds if not thousands of detail trade-offs through design decisions, that we had to make carefully in order to get the best performance per walt, which is what this processor really does.
This processor focused on the mobile market place, which is all variety from notebook down to little notebook, down to ultra mobile pc, down to mobile internet devices, and all kinds of handheld things. And in all those environments, power consumption is necessary. (I mean) you have to have good power consumption as you can live, becouse it's battery powered. So the trick is how you get your battery consumption low but provide the performance the modern applications need.
Now we currently have a C7 product line that has lowest power than any product out there, and good performance. Good enough that actually has some design-wins. what that we tried to do with our new Isaiah architecture is to double the performance at the same power. So for people want more performance than our current products offer, they can get the performance. But they wouldn't have to give up anything...they wouldn't need bigger battery, they wouldn't have to give up power supply, give up the battery life for anything else.
The other thing we did is we made the new product perfectly compatible, pin and package compatible with our current part. So on board can support both. What this approach means to the designer is that they can build one product design-one board, one package-shall then can have two different price-performance points. Upon our current C7 price-performance point, with no extra work from them, they can offer something 2x of performance.
I can draw a little plot here, performance and power. There is the competition, and here is our C7. Rumor has it that the competition is developing our new architecture, and here kind of the design space we are in. The rumor has that would be the low power but not pretty good at performance, not even better than our current part. And more importantly it's totally imcompatible with the high-end version of that competitors'. That's the two product lines don't use the same chipset, they don't use the same board, they don't use the same package, different buses. You just have the division. But we've done, back to my picture, compitition here and C7 here, at the smae power, we just move performance up, with purposely compatible line, same bus, same package, same board, right?...
I'm really proud of Centaur when people to hear about it. Because less than a hundred people are competitive within possiblly the world's most competitive bussiness. And more improtantly, we've just designed a completely new architecture from scratch, with very sophisticated and latest features of our architecture in it, and occupies the performance per walt, performance per cost point that no one else can touch!
Richard Brown Part:
We usually thought Via as a chipset company. Within last two to three years, we've been transferring more to becoming a cpu platform company. I think with Isaiah-that temendous processor-takes us to the next level, in turns of performance, in turns of kind of product line we can offer!
