出于某种神秘的原因，人脸识别在过去的 6-18个月里迎来一个新的小高潮，明显盖住了其他生物特征识别的风头，包括之前似乎被工业界高度认可的指纹识别(finger print)以及虹膜识别(iris recognition)。
