As Free PDF Reader is a Java application, you first need Sun Java Runtime installed in your Linux computer. If you do not already have it, you can install by following these steps.

1. Download Self-extracting Java Runtime installer from http://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp to yourDownloads folder.
   
2. Open Terminal (from the menu Applications » Accessories).
3. Create a directory named java.

   sudo mkdir /usr/java

4. Copy the self-extracting installer to that directory.

   sudo cp ~/Downloads/jre*.bin /usr/java

5. Navigate to the directory.

   cd /usr/java

6. After ensuring that this folder does not contain any files or folder, execute the installer.

   sudo sh ./jre*.bin

7. Create a link to the java executable in /usr/bin

   sudo ln -s /usr/java/jre*/bin/java /usr/bin/java

After doing the above, you can check your Java installation by typing the commandjava -version. Some Linux distributions do not have the sudo facility. If that's the case with your installation, then run the shell with root privileges and omit sudo from the above commands.
