Harold Kelley’s Attributional Framework
People usually explain behavior in terms of:
- Person -> Something about the person in question
- Entity -> Some enduring feature of the situation
- Time -> Something about the particular occasion
Causal attributions are based on:
- Consensus -> Do other people respond similarity?
- Distinctiveness -> Do other situations elicit the same behavior?
- Consistency -> Does the same thing happen time after time?
Salience and Causal Attribution
