Some tips that will help you on your path to better English skills:
1. Use English websites more often. For e.g. use Google/Yahoo instead of Baidu, use an all-English online dictionary likewww.m-w.com. This online dictionary helps you listen to the pronunciation of the word along with helping you understand the meaning.
2. Learn at least 3 new words a day and use it in sentences when you speak.
3. Practice speaking in front of a mirror. It helps to increase confidence. Read a passage aloud everyday.
4. Remember to speak loudly, clearly and slowly. It is important to open your mouth and pronounce words clearly.
5. Remember to remain calm and relax. Observe your pronunciation and grammar. Awareness is the first step to correcting your problem areas.
6. Watch English movies, TV shows and news (CNN). Avoid watching programs with Chinese subtitles. :-)
7. Remember that learning a language is a continuous process. Practice for at least 15 minutes everyday. Choose a practice partner and work with them everyday.
8. When you talk with yourself, practice doing so in English. Start, by looking at objects and think of the English word first, not the Chinese one. They say fluency in a language is achieved when you can think in that language.
