Problem Description:

This issue has been logged as [NIM079062: Visual Studio 2010 crashes when trying to modify the LayerDefinition of a Map Resource Manager control on a machine with Internet Explorer 9 installed.]

Solution:
It is still possible to work with layer definitions directly in the default.aspx source code for the application on machines with IE9 installed.Configuring layer definitions in a new out of the box Server Manager Web ADF application provides an identical interface to what you see in Visual Studio and will auto generate code that gives an example of the syntax you should be using when you work with the default.aspx source code.

The only alternative workaround for this bug is to uninstall IE9 from Web ADF development machines.
