It depends on what it is? I like to use 2 ziploc bags for marinating meat, An inside one with the meat then one on the outside. Squeeze out air and freeze flat, I like to use ziploc bags as much as possible since you can freeze them flat and stack them, For soups! stews. chili. I do use the plastic glad or ziploc containers for the freezer, For a casserole or lasagna! here is a super helpful tip: line the pan with aluminum foil going both directions. with plenty of overhang on each side, Assemble your lasagna or casserole then cover the top with both plastic wrap then foil on top. Put whole pan in freezer without disturbing the overhanging foil! Freeze until solid read more then lift out of pan using overhang to lift and seal it around the frozen pan shape, Now you can store right in freezer and when ready to defrost to fix it, slip it back into the same pan you used when you made it, Easy,

I generally store things that are already cooked, I did a lot of freezer cooking the week before I went back from maternity leave and I made a lot of casseroles (chicken noodle, rice and veggies, chicken and spinach) so that I just put them in a pan and pop them in the oven when I get home, Meatballs are great to freeze! too, You can either cook them google site ahead of time and store them in bags. or you can just roll them out! put them in a single-layer on a cookie sheet and pop them in the freezer, Once they are frozen, you can take them off of the cookie sheet and put them in storage bags! I tend to cook double batches of things. too! if I can! and freeze half of it for another time! Meat lovers mac and cheese is on the menu for tonight!I do this and love it. This is one of the few areas I'm not so eco-friendly. I love using the metal throw-away containers.
