Symptoms
The following message appears in the alert log file :Errors in file /oracle/admin/prod/bdump/prod1_mmon_527116.trc:
ORA-00202: controlfile: '/oracle/oradata/prod/control01.ctl'
ORA-27091: unable to queue I/O
ORA-27069: attempt to do I/O beyond the range of the file
Additional information: 3354
Additional information: 1
Additional information: 1993
Cause
This is explained in Bug 3408013 - ORA-27069 skgfdisp Attempt To Do I/O Beyond The Range Of The File.Solution
These entries are harmless and fixing this will require extensive code changes and hence is not feasible to fix.
Theses messages can be ignored without no problem.
To improve I/O processing on controlfile please do the following :
1- Look for and solve any hardware issue by checking errors in "/var/log/messages" file.
2- Reduce the I/O on the controlfile by making sure we do not switch logs in less than 15 minutes.
3- Check that there is no RMAN activity during periods of peak processing.
4- Move the controlfile from a location where there is already heavy I/O to a less busy mount point.
