Red Hat Advanced Server (RHAS) 2.1

 ::= 2.4.9-e.
 ::= 
 ::= {smp|enterprise|summit}

Types:

• none: Uniprocessor
• smp: SMP up to 4GB
• enterprise: SMP up to 16GB
• summit: IBM x440 arch

Examples:

• 2.4.9-e.49

• 2.4.9-e.35smp

Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 3

 ::= 2.4.21-EL
 ::= .|{}
 ::= {smp|hugemem}

Types:

• none: Uniprocessor
• smp: SMP up to 16GB
• hugemem: SMP up to 64GB

Examples:

• 2.4.21-27.EL *
• 2.4.21-15.EL

* On different hardware platforms, if there is no type, the kernel might be SMP already.

Types:

• none: Uniprocessor *
• smp: SMP up to 16GB
• hugemem: SMP up to 64GB
• largesmp: x86_64 SMP for more than 4 CPUs
• xenU: Kernel that can be run as a paravirtualized guest for Xen

* On different hardware platforms, if there is no type, the kernel might be SMP already.

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5

Types:

• none: SMP kernel
• PAE: Over 4GB of RAM (up to 64GB for the x86) - Physical Address Extension or 3-level paging on x86 processors that support PAE
• xen: Kernel that can run virtualized guests

 

 

 

bigsmp和smp

smp   应该是symmetric   multiple   processors对称多处理器，支持多cpu的

big是支持大内存的

 

bigsmp=big+smp，既支持big，又支持smp。big一般指4G以上或64G以上的内存。
