ADERTISING

1. We offer a prestigious Marie Curie Experienced Researcher Fellowship [1]. The general goal is to advance the state of the art in Machine Learning / Computer Vision / Perception /  Artificial Intelligence, in the context of ongoing research projects at the SwissAI Lab IDSIA. Special restrictions apply [2].

Blurb:

Join the Deep Learning team that won more international competitions in machine learning and pattern recognition than any other research group [3-8], also the first team to create superhuman visual classifiers [4], with the first Deep Learners  to win contestsin object detection [5] and image segmentation [6]. We are at the Swiss AI Lab IDSIA [9], in the world's leading science nation [10], also the world's most competitive country for the 5th year in a row [11] - since 2009, when our neural networks (NN) becamethe first Deep Learners to win official international competitions [7]. Many leading companies are now using our techniques [8]. We are interested in candidates applying for our prestigious Marie Curie Experienced Researcher Fellowship connected to the ProtoTouchproject [2]. We offer a highly competitive Swiss salary. Please follow the instructions [1]. Next deadline 20 January 2014.

2. Amazon has recently initiated a large-scale effort to hire the world's best research scientists in Computer Vision to develop cutting-edge algorithms, solve real-world problems and build magical experiences that impact millions of customers. These researchscientists will be technical leaders who closely collaborate with engineering teams to develop planet-scale solutions using computer vision and guide the future development of computer vision applications across all corners of Amazon. Our initiatives in thisarea are in start-up mode.  The teams are building customer-facing solutions that will be used by millions of people and are working at breakneck speed to find innovative solutions to huge business problems that have never been solved before.

We are looking for a wide range of expertise and interests in computer vision, and in related fields such as machine learning. We are expanding to put together new team(s) across Europe to work together with our Seattle teams. If you are interested in joininga fast-growing team in a fast-growing company to evolve initiatives from an idea to system impacting millions of customers, we have the perfect opportunity for you. Please send your CV or inquiries to strategic-recruiting@amazon.com. We are planning to hosta week-long interview event in March, 2014 in Berlin, Germany.

The basic qualifications we are looking for are:

*             PhD in Computer Science or related field
*             Academic and/or industry experience with one of more of the following domains: computer vision, image processing, machine learning or large-scale distributed systems.
*             Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as C, C++, Java, or Python.
*             Experience in developing novel and practical solutions with limited resources/power to real-world problems
*             Familiarity with data structures, algorithms, and complexity analysis.
*             Proficiency in MATLAB desired.
*             Ability to rapidly prototype and evaluate customer applications and interaction methodologies.

The Oxford Visual Geometry Group (VGG ? http://www.robots.ox.ac.uk/~vgg) is seeking a PhD student for a challenging research project at the boundary of computer vision and deep learning. In the past few years, deep learning has dramatically outperformed conventional computer vision methods inkey visual tasks such as object recognition, detection, and segmentation. The aim of this project is to extend these techniques to a wider spectrum of low- and high-level computer vision problems. While the primary goal is to achieve breakthrough performancein applications of specific interest to our industrial collaborator, a key objective of the project is to improve the theoretical understanding of deep models and how these can be explained, decomposed, and mapped to tasks and concepts in computer vision.

Supervision. The student will be supervised by Dr Andrea Vedaldi (http://www.robots.ox.ac.uk/~vedaldi/), Associate Professor in the Oxford Engineering Science department and PI in the OxfordVisual Geometry Group. His main research interests include semantic image understanding and large scale machine learning and optimization.
