网页浏览器包括微软的Internet Explorer、Opera、Mozilla的Firefox、Maxthon和Safari，以及后起之秀Google浏览器。浏览器是最经常使用到的客户端程序。本篇文章就其特点做了一个介绍。

介绍

Internet Explorer

Windows Internet Explorer，原称Microsoft Internet Explorer，简称MSIE（一般称作Internet Explorer，简称IE），是微软公司推出的一款网页浏览器。虽然自2004年以来它丢失了一部分市场占有率，Internet Explorer依然是使用最广泛的网页浏览器。在2005年4月，它的市场占有率约为85%。2007年其市场占有率为78%。

Firefox

Mozilla Firefox（正式缩写为 Fx，非正式缩写为FF），俗称火狐（被官方使用但是没作为商标），是由Mozilla基金会与开源团体共同开发的网页浏览器。Firefox是从Mozilla Application Suite派生出来的网页浏览器，从2005年开始，每年都被媒体PC Magazine选为年度最佳浏览器。根据统计，截至2008年7月，Firefox浏览器市占率为19.22%，仅次于微软的Internet Explorer^[1]。

Firefox几经更名，其曾用名有mozilla/browser，Phoenix，Firebird，而最终定下的名称“ Firefox”在英文里指的是小熊猫，显然火狐开放小组使用了直译的方法，使得吉祥物及官方图标都是一只火红的小狐狸。

Firefox 使用开放源码的网页排版引擎Gecko，Gecko 能够让浏览器尽可能按标准来显示网页内容。

Firefox 内置分页浏览、拼字检查、即时书签、下载管理员及自定义搜索引擎等功能。此外还可以通过由第三方开发者贡献的扩展软件来加强各种功能，较受欢迎的有专门浏览IE only网页的IE Tab、阻挡网页广告的Adblock Plus、下载在线影片的VideoDownloader、保护计算机安全的NoScript等。截至2008年，Firefox可用的扩展软件有多于2,000种。^[2]

Firefox可以在多种操作系统中运行，目前的稳定版是<chsdate year="2008" month="9" day="26" islunardate="False" isrocdate="False" w:st="on"><span lang="EN-US">2008</span>年<span lang="EN-US">9</span>月<span lang="EN-US">26</span>日</chsdate>发布的<chsdate year="1899" month="12" day="30" islunardate="False" isrocdate="False" w:st="on"><span lang="EN-US">3.0.3</span></chsdate>版^[3]，源代码以GPL/LGPL/MPL三种授权方式发布。

Safiari

Safari是苹果公司所开发的网页浏览器，并内建于Mac OS X。Safari在2003年1月7日首度发行测试版^[1]，并成为Mac OS X v10.3与之后的默认浏览器，也是iPhone与iPod touch的指定浏览器。Windows版本的首个测试版在2007年6月11日推出，支援Windows XP与Windows Vista^[2]，在2008年3月18日推出正式版。

Opera

Opera起初是一款挪威Opera Software ASA公司制作的支持多页面标签式浏览的网络浏览器，由于新版本的Opera增加了大量网络功能，官方将Opera定义为一个网络包。目前官方发布的个人电脑用的最新稳定版本为9.62。

Opera支持多种操作系统，如Windows、Linux、Mac、FreeBSD、Solaris、BeOS、OS/2、QNX等，此外，Opera还有手机用的版本(Opera Mini和Opera Mobile)，在2006年更与Nintendo签下合约，提供NDS及Wii游乐器Opera浏览器软件；也支持多语言，包括简体中文和繁体中文。

Google chrome

Google Chrome 是一个由 Google 开发的网页浏览器，采用 BSD许可证授权并开放开放源代码，开源计划名为 Chromium，目前占据浏览器市场 1% 的份额^[1] 。其程式码是基于其他开放源代码软件所撰写，包括 WebKit 和 Mozilla，并开发出称为“V8”的高效能 JavaScript 引擎。Google Chrome 的整体发展目标是提升稳定性、速度和安全性，并创造出简单且有效率的使用者界面^[2]。软件的名称是来自于又称作“Chrome”的网络浏览器图形使用者界面。

软件的 Beta 测试版本在2008年9月2日释出，目前提供 43 种语言版本，但仅适用于Microsoft Windows的XP及Vista，并不支援 Windows 2000 或更早期的版本。Mac OS X 和 Linux 版本正在研发中，并将于日后推出.

　ZDnet用了7页的报告比较了世界上最流行的4个浏览器：IE（本站下载），Firefox（本站下载），Opera（本站下载），Safari（本站下载）。它使用了iBench和SunSpider作性能基准测试软件，测试平台为Windows Vista SP1和Mac OS X <chsdate year="1899" month="12" day="30" islunardate="False" isrocdate="False" w:st="on">10.5.2</chsdate> Leopard，结果丝毫不出人意料：

虽然其中有一些还是beta测试版本，浏览器性能排名如下：Firefox和 Safari走在Opera和Internet Explorer各个版本前面。将在6月发布的Firefox 3，性能超越，内存占用很低。没有其它浏览器在打开多个网站时内存使用比Firefox 3 Beta 5更少，只有极小部分网站在浏览器下显示出错。
