Motreux
Another train ride brings you to Montreux, the main resort town on the Swiss side of the lake. Explore the old houses and crooked streets in the old city. Then take a 3 km stroll down a beautiful lake path to the most impressive castle in Switzerland, Chateau of Chillon.
Most of the castle dates from the 13th century. But the oldest part is some1,000 years old. The castle—never damaged or destroyed—remains in good condition today. Inside, It abounds with rich artwork and furniture. You can explore the castle from dungeon to tower.
Back in Montreux, take a cogwheel railway up to Rochers-de-Naye. The hour-long trip takes you up the mountain slopes, past small villages and flocks of sheep. At the summit, you get a spectacular view of Lake Geneva and the surrounding Alps. On a clear day, you can even see Geneva’s famous Jet d’Eau! At the summit, enjoy the flowers in the alpine garden, the highest in Europe.
As you look at the view, you’ll find yourself gazing first at the lake and then at the mountains. It’s a view you’ll remember for a lifetime.
