create a recovery catalog
The simple steps to create a recovery catalog in rman is as below:-
OUTLINE:
1). Create tablespace
2). Create catalog owner
3). Grant privileges
4). Create catalog
5). Connect to target database
6). Register target database
The syntax in detail are as below:-
(1) Connect to the database and create a tablespace for catalog:
SQL>create tablespace <tablespace name> datafile '<path>' size 20m
extent management local uniform size 128K;
(2) Create user and schema for recovery catalog:
SQL> create user <username> identified by <password> default tablespace <tablespace name>
quota unlimited on <tablespace name>;
(3) Grant roles and privileges to user
SQl>grant recovery_catalog_owner to <username>;
SQL>grant connect,resource to <username>;
(4)Now log in to OS to issue RMAN command interpreter:
rman> connect target sys/sysdba
rman>connect catalog <username/password>;
*check the catalog.log file created by RMAN to see if there are any errors in creating catalog.
(5) At last register the target database in the catalog:
rman>register database;
