Creating the Dictionary File To use LogMiner to analyze joedevo’s data, you
must create a dictionary file before starting LogMiner. Take the following steps:
1. In the init.ora file, set the initialization parameter UTL_FILE_DIR to
/user/local/dbs:
UTL_FILE_DIR = /user/local/dbs
2. Start SQL*Plus and then connect to the database:
CONNECT SYSTEM/password
3. Open the database to create the dictionary file:
STARTUP
4. Name the dictionary orcldict.ora and place it in the directory
/user/local/dbs:
EXECUTE DBMS_LOGMNR_D.BUILD(
DICTIONARY_FILENAME => 'orcldict.ora',
DICTIONARY_LOCATION => '/usr/local/dbs');
5. The dictionary was created and can be used later. You can shut down the
database:
SHUTDOWN;
