Welcome to GranOO, a robust and versatile workbench to build 3D dynamic simulations based on the Discrete Element Method (DEM) distributed under the free GPLv3 license.

What is GranOO ?

GranOO is not a software, GranOO is :

a collection of C++ libraries that form the GranOO's API,
a collection of specific tools that help the users for building a DEM simulation.

The aim of GranOO is to provide a coherent framework where the user focuses only on the physical description of its numerical DEM experiment. The technical aspect of the software development is managed by the workbench.

Application field

The DEM implemented in GranOO used :

regular contact laws,
spherical discrete element,
different kind of joints to simulate continuous materials,
explicit time scheme.

This configuration is well adapted to solve multi-physical discontinuous dynamic problems like wear, multi-fracturation, impact…

How to use GranOO ?

Each specific simulation requires to build a specific software. The GranOO’s API embeds some mechanisms to organize and facilitate this process.

A simulation is driven by an input XML file that describes the different treatments processed during a simulation. If the simulation requires some treatments that are not available in the GranOO workbench, the user could write its own plug-in and activate it in the input file. The plug-in must be written in C++ to use the GranOO’s API. It requires basic knowledges in Object Oriented and C++ programming.
