Symptom
- Error :" Failed to load database information Details: The Database connector crdb_bwquery.dll could not be loaded" in Crystal Reports 2011 with the old reports.
- Newly created reports using "SAP BW MDX Query Driver" works fine
Environment
- Crystal Reports 2011
- SAP BW 7.x
Reproducing the Issue
- Launch Crystal Reports 2008 designer and create a report on BEx query using the legacy "SAP BW Query Driver"
- Save the report to SAP BW system
- Launch Crystal Reports 2011 designer and connect to SAP BW system where the report was saved in step 2
- Refresh the report. I displays the error message " Failed to load database information Details: The Database connector crdb_bwquery.dll could not be loaded"
Cause
crdb_bwquery.dll was used by the legacy SAP BW Query Drivers which are no more available from Crystal Reports 2011. They were provided in CR 2008 so that the the already create reports that use legacy drivers can still be used and the reports can be recreated using new drivers i.e. "SAP BW MDX Query Drivers"
Resolution
- Open the report in Crystal Reports 2008 or 2011 designer.
- Browse to Database --> set data source location.
- Create a new connection using "SAP BW MDX Query Driver".
- Under the newly created connection browse to the query which is used in current report
- Click update.
- If there are variables in the query, they will be prompted.
- Map the required fields which are treated or fetched differently by new drivers.
- Execute the report.
Note : Mapping the fields might be complex because backend objects like hierarchies are treated differently by two drivers and in some cases recreating the report is the only option. Also as the field names and type in some cases will change, some formulas might require type conversion before reports fetch the data.
