1. flu, flux=flow 流
flow: v. 流动, 飘扬(旗), 飘垂(头发) Her hair flows down over her shoulder.
overflow: v./n. 溢出, 洋溢; 泛滥
flu: n. [influenza 的缩写] 流感 
fluency: n. [-ency 名词后缀] 流利, 流畅 speak with great fluency 
fluent: a. 流畅的, 流利的 fluent speech/ curves 流畅的演讲/曲线

2. fend, fence=strike 击打

defend: 包围, 防守(from, against); 为…辩护
(1) We defend ourselves against the enemy. 防御敌人。(against不能省)
(2) The lawyer defended the accused. 律师为被告辩护。(不需for)

offend: v. 得罪, 冒犯 I offend her. 我冒犯了她。
offence/ offense : n. 冒犯, 触怒; 过错 
She takes offence easily. 她易动怒。
