Some Notes when learning advanced git
Some theoretical concepts and command line operations are recorded as follows:
Branch
1. What does HEAD -> master
mean?
HEAD
is a reference to the current commit, (Of course, you can move theHEAD
by using checkout
command) and the master
is the name of the default branch, which is just a label of branch, pointing to the tip of the branch.
Also keep in mind that: the HEAD
is just a symbol reference, pointing to a specific commit of branch. You can check it out in the .git/HEAD
file.
