TimesTen可以运行在VMware上吗？

前几天碰到个用户，希望将TimesTen部署在VMware上，因为用户的应用层已经标准化在VMware上了，而TimesTen的使用场景是作为Oracle的应用层缓存。我之前也发过个博文说TimesTen唯一认证的虚拟化平台是Oracle自己的OVM。

由于有些不甘心，我发了帖子询问了以下，得到的答案是令人欣喜的，那就是：支持，支持，支持！

这可不是我说的，看一下Oracle的说法:Is Oracle certified to run on VMWare?

也就是说虽然Oracle没有官方认证VMware，但是Oracle的产品包括数据库，中间件，TimesTen等都可以运行在VMware上，没有认证并不代表技术上不可行，只需满足一定的条件，同样可以得到Oracle的售后支持。在MOS Support Position for Oracle Products Running on VMWare Virtualized Environments (Doc ID 249212.1)中的说明是：

Oracle has not certified any of its products on VMware virtualized environments. Oracle Support will assist customers running Oracle products
on VMware in the following manner: Oracle will only provide support for issues that either are known to occur on the native OS, or can be demonstrated not to be as a result of running on VMware.

If a problem is a known Oracle issue, Oracle support will recommend the appropriate solution on the native OS. If that solution does not work in the VMware virtualized environment, the customer will be referred to VMware for support. When the customer can demonstrate that the Oracle solution does not work when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required.

If the problem is determined not to be a known Oracle issue, we will refer the customer to VMware for support. When the customer can demonstrate that the issue occurs when running on the native OS, Oracle will resume support, including logging a bug with Oracle Development for investigation if required.

其实这段文字还是有点模棱两可，不过VMware提供的Understanding Oracle Certification, Support and Licensing for VMware Environments就显得清楚多了，总之，Oracle的产品运行在VMware上没有问题，Oracle不支持，VMware会提供支持。

VMware的这篇文章不但附了Oracle的声明(Doc ID 249212.1)，而且顺便也对虚拟化上的Oracle的license做了说明：
1. 如果物理机上所有的core都有Oracle license，那么此物理机可以运行任意多个Oracle数据库，没有限制
2. 如果只是部分core有license，那么可以使用VMware的CPU affinity功能，让数据库只运行在指定的CPU上

又了解到，其实在生产环境中有不少的TimesTen运行在VMware上的案例
