Paintings are visual art forms created by applying pigments(n. 颜料,染料;色素(pigment的复数形式)) to a surface, usually a canvas, using various techniques such as brushes, knives, or fingers. They can represent anything from realistic depictions(n. 描写;叙述) of the world around us to abstract expressions of emotion or concepts.
