Avahi is an Implementation of the DNS Service Discovery and Multicast DNS specifications for Zeroconf Networking. It uses D-Bus for communication between user applications and a system daemon. The daemon is used to coordinate application efforts in caching replies, necessary to minimize the traffic imposed on networks.

Avahi 是 zeroconf 协议的实现。它可以在没有 DNS 服务的局域网里发现基于 zeroconf 协议的设备和服务。它跟 mDNS 一样。除非你有兼容的设备或使用 zeroconf 协议的服务，否则应该关闭 它。我把它关闭。

 

但不知道是不是还有什么作用，如果没用老外为什么喜欢用、加在linux中？用途：可以参见附图或 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/File:Avahi-Architecture-Overview.svg

 

Ubuntu remove:

sudo update-rc.d -f avahi-daemon remove

要取消启动某个服务，只要去/etc/rc2.d/下把那个符号链接删了就可以(或者重命名后加个~，以后要恢复也容易)。

Fedora remove:

sudo chkconfig --level 35 avahi-daemon off
