Another manufacturer of smart bulbs is LIFX. LIFX bulbs do not require a hub. The bulbs have built-in WIFI and readily connect to Apple Home. LIFX bulbs can be pricey, but they are very bright (up to 1100 lumens). The bulbs can also have vibrant color combinations, with support for strobing, scenes, infra-red vision, and even music syncing.

If you have legacy devices as I do, then some of these are not Apple Homekit compliant. These include the Ring Video Doorbell, the Ring Alarm system, The NEST Smart Thermostat, and NEST fire and carbon monoxide detectors.
