Comes a day when you really don’t want to work. You just want to check-in and check out of the job. Doesn’t happen to me a lot, because I love what I do, but there are few ways to motivate yourself.

Big tasks should be divided into smaller tasks. Software engineers often do this to accomplish big tickets. You won’t be that stressed, because the task is done incrementally.

This will give you a sense of accomplishment and will motivate you to complete the whole task. Small incremental changes are much better. Tackling the whole task at once is time-consuming.

Incrementals are easier to estimate, so you can finish them faster. You see progress along the way, so it will push you to finish faster.

Consult with a team member to find a way to solve it. Mention in the daily that you’re having trouble fixing the bug.

Don’t lose motivation if you can’t solve it. Other developers will fix it up if you didn’t. You won’t lose your power if you don’t fix it.

Pesky bugs can lower your motivation a lot. After a day or two, you question your knowledge. It is better to move away from it, as it will drain your energy.

处理测试员 (Handling Testers)

Testing is necessary for any software development. Solving bug is half of the work done. A tester needs to approve the solution, to resolve the task.

Ensure that you value their opinion, as it will help in the long run. They come up with various approaches, not as developers do.

Don’t feel discouraged if they don’t like your solution. This will only give you a bigger picture, and motivate you to explore more.
