Welcome to HTML5 tests, the web site that lets you test-out your equipment to see if certain HTML5 features are supported.

What is HTML5? The World Wide Web Consortium, the group that standardizes how web sites should be coded, is working on a new way to deliver content from web sites.

The current standard (HTML4.01) was created in 1999 and is over 12 years old! It was created in a time that web browsers were just beginning to hit the market.

Most poeple were on dial-up modem and did not have the Internet at work. The Internet was simply not part of our daily lives. There was no such thing as

"Smart Phones", "Intelligent Game Consols" like the PS/3. Watching a video online was a small and choppy affair.

To put you in context, here are things that were popular in 1999:

The "Sixth Sense", Star Wars Episode I (with Jar-Jar) and Austin Powers were in theaters.

TLC's "No Scrubs" and "Livin' La Vida Loca" were billboard hits.

Windows 98 was the brand new operating system from Microsoft, and shipped with the now infamous Internet Explorer 4.

The world was anxiously biting its fingernails to see what would happen with the Y2K computer bug.

Since Then, computers have evolved. We expect rich-content web sites with beautiful images and streaming content.

To make this happen, developers put browser plug-ins on top of your browser (Flash, Shockwave, Java...) to enable rich content. They developped tricks and tweaks that would only work in certain browsers.

To make things worst, all the makers of the different browser companies had different interpretations of how HTML 4.01 should work.

NO MORE!!!

W3C has been working on the HTML 5 standard, which includes things like embedded video/audio, graphical user enhancements and textual user enhancements as well.

The new specification is so large that most of today's browsers won't fully support it for many months after it has been completed.

This is why we have created this web site. To give you information and links on HTML5 and to give you an idea if your current browser or technology is HTML5 compatible.

It is important to note that this is not a definitive test, and your mileage may vary.
