[规则动词]需要某事，或被迫做某事:I need a break. The radio needs new batteries. You don't need to come if you don't want to.
[情态动词(只用于疑问句和否定句)]不得不:Need they wait? I needn't have bothered.
[名词]需要,必要:There's no need to shout!

语法结构
1 need(动词) | + 名词短语
  Do you need anything from the shops?
  Cathy needed an electrician so she phoned Jeff.
  表示你所需要的东西
 
2  need (动词 ) | + 带to的不定式
  We need to do something about the design.
  Wendy won't need to retake her exam after all.
  表示需要或不需要的东西
 
3  need (动词) | + 名词短语 | + 带to的不定式
  She needs somebody to look after the baby for an hour or two.
  I need a cloth to clean up this mess.
  表示需要某人或某物来帮你做某事
 
4  need (动词) | + -ing
  The grass needs cutting.
  Does this salad need washing?
  强调应该做某事
 
5  need (情态动词) | + -n't/not | + 不带to的不定式
  You needn't dry the dishes:just leave them to drain.
  I needn't have got up so early: I could've stayed in bed.
  You needn't start the course next year:you can wait until the year after.
  表示现在(或过去或将来)不需要的东西
 
6  there | + is/was等 | + 限定词 | + need(名词) | + 带to的不定式
   There was no need to phone the police,but they did.
   There's an urgent need to protect the ozone layer.
   表示(不)需要的行为.

搭配
   最常见的接在"need + to"后面的不定式是:be,know,do,have,make和get.
   You need to be careful.
   What we need to know is the exact cost.
   Did you need to do that?
   经常跟need连用的副词是badly(=very much):
     He badly needs a haircut.
     Money is badly needed to help restore the temple.
    
固定短语
   need a hand = require help需要帮忙
   Do you need a hand with the packing?
  
   be in need of =require需要
   This house is in need of a coat of paint.
  
   if need be = if necessary 如果需要(的话)
   We can always order a pizza ,if need be.
