How to Upgrading DevExpress controls

VS2005 doesn't allow the assemblies of the new versions to be used within your project. Thus when you try to open the form the framework tries to load older assemblies which have already been replaced with new ones and so the form fails to open. There are two ways to resolve this problem:

1. You shold remove all DevExpress assemblies from your project's references and then add new versions manualluy. This way your application will work until you install the new update of our suites. After installing them you will need to perform this step again.
2. You can change the Specific Version option for each assembly to false. To do this you should right click an assembly within the project's references and and select the Properties entry within the context menu. Then within the assembly properties window you should switch off the mentioned option. Finally, you should remove the licenses.licx file from your project save it and restart Visual Studio. This way your project will work correctly when you install the next update to our suites.
   

You use the following approach for upgrading an existing project :

1. Back up your project!
2. Update new DevExpress controls.
3. Use the XtraConverter utility to convert an existing project to a new version(after step 2). XtraConverter parses and changes only the Windows Form Designer Generated Code. Code which was written manually is unchanged. XtraConverter is shipped with DevExpress controls. You can find it in the \Developer Express Inc.NET.v3\Support\ directory.
4. Open your project. Please don't open the form designer at this stage! Please build your project. More than likely, there will be many errors due to the changes in the new DevExpress controls(there should be either nothing or just a couple of them). Below is a list of the common errors and solutions to fix them. If you have some difficulties in correcting wrong code, please don't hesitate to ask us for assistance. Please don't delete old code, only comment it out.
5. The conversion has succeeded, if you can build and launch your project. Then you can open the form designer and continue working on your project.
