[不规则动词: give,gave,given]给某人提供某物：What shall we give Mum for her birthday?
They gave me flowers. Luke was given a standing ovation.

语法结构
1 give | + 名词短语| + 名词短语
Give the dog a bone.
I gave the woman directions.
We were given a tour of the palace.
表示交给、提供和接受某物。

2 give | + 名词短语| + to | + 名词短语
What shall I do with this old coat? ~ Give it to Oxfam.
She gave a speech to the World Health Organisation.
This ring was given to me by my grandmother.
表示将某物转交给某人或某个团体

3 give | + 名词短语
She gave a scream and rushed from the room.
The painting gives a sense of peace.
表示实施某些行为或传递某些感受

搭配
give 通常和下列类别的名词连用
人类表情: a shout,a cry,a sigh,a smile.
身体动作: a kick,a punch,a push
交流事件：some advice,an answer,a (phone) call, a clue,an example,some information,
an interview,a lecture,the news,a report,a speech,a talk , a warning.
   She gave a sigh and turned on the TV.
   I saw her give the dog a kick.
   I'll give you an answer tomorrow.
   This exercise is too difficult:give me a clue.
   Dr Fisher was given an interview by the BBC.

give 还可以与小品词连用构成下列短语动词:

give something away,表示将不再需要的东西送出。
give something back,表示将某物归还。
give in 表示屈服或不情愿地同意
give something out 表示分发某物
give up doing something 表示停止做某事

He gave all his money away to charity.
Can you give out these questionnaires?
When did you give up smoking?

固定短语
'I'd give anything to ...' 我愿意付出所有...
I'd give anything to have a view of the sea.
表示你非常渴望做某事或拥有某物。

given...= considering考虑到
It's not surprising,given her age.
Given the circumstances,you can hardly blame him.
'give or take...' (动词短语) 相差不多...
It will take three weeks to have the flat painted ,give or take a day or two.
将时间模糊化
give and take(名词短语)  = compromise,flexibility 折中，互相迁就
There has to be a bit of give and take in any marriage.
