Original Document Release.

On ProLiant servers configured with an Integrated Smart Array 6i Controller connected to an external HP Ultrium tape drive, the Microsoft Windows port driver (SCSIPORT.SYS) may log erroneous Event ID 9 and Event ID 117 messages on behalf of the HP CPQCISSM driver while Windows is starting. Although this has been observed when using an external HP Ultrium 215 tape drive, it may occur when using any HP Ultrium tape drive. Additionally, although has been observed when using the Integrated Smart Array 6i Controller, this may also occur on servers configured with a Smart Array 641/642 or Smart Array 6402/6404 Controller.

See Figures 1, 2, and 3 (below) for more details on the Event ID 9 and Event ID 117 messages.

Note: Although Event ID 9 and Event ID 117 messages are reported as errors, there is no impact on the operation of the server or tape drive.
