一、VM-FEX官网配置案例
Whatis VM-FEX? VM-FEX (previously known as VN-link) is a method to extend thenetwork fabric completely down to the VMs. With VM-FEX, the FabricInterconnects handle switching for the ESXi host's VMs. UCSM utilizes thevCenter dVS Application Programming Interfaces (API) to this end. Therefore,VM-FEX shows as a dVS in the ESXi host.
There are many benefits to VM-FEX:
Reduced CPU overhead on the ESX host
Faster performance
VMware DirectPath I/O with vMotion support
Network management moved up to the FIs rather than on the ESXi host
Visibility into vSphere with UCSM
Workingwith a Cisco virtual interface card (VIC) adapter, the Cisco Virtual MachineFabric Extender(VM-FEX) bypasses software-based switching of VM traffic by thehypervisor for external hardware-based switching in the fabric interconnect.Thismethod reduces the load on the server CPU, provides faster switching, andenables you to apply a rich set of network management features to local andremote traffic.
VM-FEXextends the IEEE 802.1Qbh port extender architecture to the VMs by providingeach VM interface with a virtual Peripheral Component Interconnect Express(PCIe) device and a virtual port on a switch. This solution allows precise ratelimiting and quality of service (QoS) guarantees on the VM interface.

三Cisco FEXTechnology
Basedon the emerging standard IEEE 802.1BR, Cisco FEX Technology solution comprisesof a parent switch that can be a Cisco Nexus 5000 Series Switch, Nexus 6000Series Switch, Nexus 7000 Series Switch or a Cisco UCS Fabric Interconnect.
Theparent switch is then extended to connect to the server either as a remote linecard with Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders or logically partition orvirtualize adapter ports to connect to any type of servers — rack and/or blades, with Cisco Adapter FEX and VM-FEX technologies.
1. Cisco Nexus 2000 Series Fabric Extenders
Nexus2000 Series Fabric Extenders behave logically like remote line cards for aparent Cisco Nexus 5000 or 7000 Series Switch. They simplify data center accessoperations and architecture as well as management from the parent switches. They deliver a broad range of connectivity options, including 40 GigabitEthernet, 10 Gigabit Ethernet, 1 Gigabit Ethernet, 100 MB and Fibre Channelover Ethernet (FCoE)
2.Cisco UCS 2200 Series Fabric Extenders
TheCisco UCS 2200 Series extends the Cisco FEX Technology to Cisco Unified ComputingSystem blade servers. The Cisco UCS 2200 Series Fabric Extenders together withthe Cisco UCS 6200 Series Fabric Interconnects form a similar parent switch andline card architecture to deliver scalability.
3. Cisco Nexus B22 Fabric Extender
The CiscoNexus B22 extends the Cisco FEX Technology to high-density blade serverchassis, providing consistency across rack and blade server environments. Itsupports third-party blade servers, including HP, DELL and Fujitsu bladeservers. Cisco Nexus 5000 Series and Nexus 6000 Series Switches act as parentswitches for the blade servers, for simplified management.
4.Cisco Adapter FEX
CiscoAdapter FEX extends the Cisco FEX Technology into traditional rack servers. CiscoAdapter FEX enables the server adapter to be logically partitioned intomultiple virtual network interface cards (vNICs). Each vNIC behaves like aphysical NIC port and meets the network connectivity needs for eachapplication, so that security and quality of service (QoS) policies can beapplied for each vNIC and application. Cisco has partnered with server adaptervendors including Emulex, Broadcom and QLogic to deliver this capability.
5.CiscoDataCenter VM-FEX
CiscoData Center VM-FEX extends the Cisco FEX Technology to virtualized servers.Cisco Data Center VM-FEX partitions the server adapter into multiple vNICs, andeach vNIC is assigned to individual virtual machines. By providing switching ofVM traffic in hardware switches instead of using a software switch within thehypervisor, Cisco customers achieve greater performance through theconsolidation of the virtual and physical access layers.
