The School of computer science and communication engineering is one of the professional colleges set up independently earlier in the field of Computer Science in China. It has the doctoral program of the first level discipline of computer science and technology, the postdoctoral research center of computer science and technology, the master program of computer science and technology, software engineering and Electronic Science and technology, the communication and information system and pattern recognition in intelligent system.

The School has 6 undergraduate majors, including computer science and technology, software engineering, communication engineering, information security, Internet of things engineering and Intelligent science and technology. Among them, computer science and technology, communication engineering are Characteristic Specialty of Jiangsu Province, and Internet of things engineering is the national comprehensive reform pilot specialty. Five majors passed Higher Engineering Education Accreditation.

At present, there are 32 doctoral students, 29 master students, and nearly 40 undergraduates. The college has 157 faculty members, including 14 doctoral supervisors, 31 professors and 55 associate professors. Eight famous experts are employed as part-time professors The college has 6 departments, 2 experimental centers,  and internet of things Engineering Research Institute, software system research institute, electronic and Communication Technology Research Institute, computer science internationalization department and other teaching and research institutions. The professional experimental center of the college is Jiangsu experimental demonstration center, with advanced experimental equipment and multiple high-end workstations. The college has the national "CAD application training base" determined by the Ministry of science and technology of the people's Republic of China, the "enterprise information software research center" ,"enterprise information software experiment center" jointly established with Kingdee company, and the "mobile communication innovation base" jointly established with China Mobile Zhenjiang Branch.

The college adheres to idea of taking teaching as the center, discipline construction as the leader, laboratory construction as the basis and teaching quality as the fundamental. In the teaching reform, many main courses have been rated as provincial and school level excellent courses, making full use of the modern means of multimedia assisted teaching. Most of the courses have been made into online courseware or multimedia teaching plan, and the teaching effect is good. It pays attention to the cultivation of students' innovation ability and practical ability, and the students' quality is comprehensive. It has won many awards in the international mathematical modeling competition, ACM program design competition, national information security competition, national football robot competition, national college student Challenge Cup, provincial entrepreneurship plan competition and other science and technology innovation competitions at or above the provincial level. The graduates are highly praised in the talent market, and the employment rate is close to 100%. In the past five years, it has undertaken and completed a number of national and provincial high-tech projects such as the National Natural Science Foundation Project and the national "863" project. It has won 16 provincial and ministerial science and technology progress awards, published more than 30 academic works and textbooks, and published more than 800 academic papers. The college has strengthened its contacts with the society and established long-term friendly cooperative relations with well-known enterprises such as Huawei Technology Co., Ltd., Changjiang group, Little Swan Group, Nanjing Zijin group, China Telecom, China Mobile, etc. The college has established friendly and cooperative relations with some universities in the United States, Japan, France, Germany, Mexico, Canada, etc., and has sent overseas students and visiting scholars for many times.
