Ok, I'm back to the fun task of installing Oracle Client on Linux according to the provided instructions, which seem to imply:
For user oracle, open .profile in vi and enter the following in INSERT mode:
export ORACLE_BASE=/opt/oracle/app/oracle
export DISPLAY=:0.0
Switch to COMMAND mode and hit :wq!
Then go to terminal and enter 'env | more' to see if environment is set correctly. When I do that, only the DISPLAY variable appears in the listing (but, maybe I somehow set that by accident during my many attempts). However, when I start the installer, it states.....
All installer requirements met.
Checking Temp space: must be greater than 80 MB. Actual 1571 MB Passed
Checking swap space: must be greater than 150 MB. Actual 2047MB Passed
Checking monitor: must be configured to display at least 256 colors Failed <<<<
>>> Could not execute auto check for display colors using command /usr/X11R6/bin/xdpyinfo. Check if the DISPLAY variable is set.
Some optional pre-requisite checks have failed (see above). Continue? (y/n) [n]
So, what did I do wrong? Did I use vi incorrectly?
