BIOS Update
Dell will release a BIOS update version 1.5.1 for the R410 in Q4. Support for the following features is added with this update:
BIOS support for the new Intel Westmere processors
Intel® Trusted Execution Technology (TXT) – TXT is a hardware extension of Intel's processor and chipset. It is designed to check the consistency of behavior of a system at boot time. Using a benchmark, TXT can detect if the launch time environment has been tampered with and it can aid in the detection of malware.
Single Root I/O Virtualization (SR-IOV) – The PCI-SIG has developed SR-IOV specification in response to the rapid growth of virtualization. A common issue in virtualization is how to share I/O devices such as NICs between virtual machines. Software emulation of I/O devices adds system overheard and may not take full advantage of the device's capabilities. Alternatively direct assignment of an I/O device limits access to the device to a single VM. SR-IOV devices are designed to be natively shareable between virtual machines.
Single Bit Error (SBE) Threshold Change
Advanced Host Controller Interface (AHCI) – AHCI is Intel's host controller specification for Serial ATA. It defines a standard method for detecting, configuring, and programming SATA/AHCI adapters.
