Problem Description: I would like to know what a Personal License Password (PLP) is, and how to obtain one for my MATLAB license. Solution:A Personal License Password (PLP) is the unique string of numbers that allows the installation of MATLAB R2007b and below on a Windows machine.

For example:

In R2007b and below PLP's were used for installation on Windows, and license files were used for installation of MATLAB for all other platforms.

If you are not the administrator or asset manager of the license, you must contact the administrator or asset manager of the license in order to obtain the passcodes. If you are the license Administrator or Asset Manager on a license, you can retreive the PLP/license file from the license center here:

www.mathworks.com/licensecenter

To get the PLP/license file, click on the row for the license. Once the details have been retrieved, click on the "Passcodes" tab. On the Passcodes tab, click on "Get Passcode" to get the appropriate code.

NOTE: Beginning with R2008a, PLPs are no longer used to install MATLAB. It is possible to install MATLAB by using a license file and File Installation Key. To get your license file and File Installation Key (FIK), you will need to activate MATLAB through mathworks.com.
