The Effe tiveness of Contract Learning Strategy on ESP Students’ Achievement and Attitudes towards English Language Learning

The effectiveness of using the contract learning strategy on ESP students’ achievement and attitudes towards English language is focused on in the experiment which places the students of Marine Engineering during the academic year 2007-2008 in Dalian Maritime University as subject.To achieve the study objectives,a learning contract was developed between the students and the teacher for signature in the first class and last class and an achievement test in English was applied in the end of the year.In addition,an evaluation questionnaire was developed to examine the effectiveness of the suggested contract learning strategy.It is revealed that the contract learning strategy was effective as the subject’s seriousness and commitment to the learning contract motivated them and they,as a result,scored highly on the achievement test.
