Abstract
We request a long (200 ksec) observation of the low-luminosity active galaxy NGC 4258, which we plan to coordinate with a long ASCA observation. This system provides a crucial test of the so-called ``Strong ADAF Principle'' which states that a system will possess an advection dominated accretion flow (ADAF) if such a solution exists. We will search for a broad iron line, a characteristic signature of a radiatively-efficient disk. The detection of such a line would rule out the ADAF model for NGC 4258. Furthermore, RXTE's ability to better characterize the continuum spectrum compared to previous ASCA observations will allow us to refine models for the MASER emission as well as models for the possibly radiatively warped accretion disk seen in this system.
