LPI assists other Open Source organization in the development and delivery of certification programs. This includes the Ubuntu Certified Professional exams which LPI offers through Prometric and VUE testing centres..
In 2006, Canonical Ltd. and LPI jointly developed and announced the Ubuntu Certified Professional certification program.
The Ubuntu Certified Professional (UCP) is a certification based on the LPI level 1 certification. To earn the UCP, candidates are required to pass the LPI 101, LPI 102 and the Ubuntu 199 exams. Exams can be taken in any order.
The certification tests student's ability to:
Install and configure Ubuntu systems
Perform routine administration tasks: boot and shut down the system, manage user accounts and file systems, and maintain system security
Configure network connectivity and key network services
Work productively at the Linux command line
Previous knowledge of Linux is an advantage; prior system administration experience of some other operating system is required.
The Ubuntu 199 exam is available worldwide through Prometric and Pearson Vue testing centres.
Note: From the 1st February 2009, the Ubuntu 199 exam price will be USD $155 at all testing centers.
