摘要:
Simulation software such as LCMflot (L3P, Montreal) and LIMS (Center for Composite Materials, University of Delaware) is used regularly to design the moulds and select the processing parameters in liquid composite moulding (LCM). The main parameter, Darcy's permeability tensor K, is usually obtained from measurements. Reliable data is easily obtained for flat, undeformed reinforcements. However the complexity of most parts requires that the permeability characterisation accounts for compaction, in-plane shear, inserts, cuts and ply drop-offs as well as the different textile structures available commercially. This is practically impossible and approximations must be made on K, reducing the accuracy of the simulations. While experimental measurement will always be required analytical permeability predictions including the aforementioned aspects and using reasonable CPU resources may enhance the process. This paper presents an algorithm allowing such predictions. While being conceptually simple the algorithm considers the complex geometry of industrial preforms.
