摘要:
Discovery systems, no longer the new kids on the block, are now integral to the operations of thousands of libraries worldwide. These systems enable library users to access the full universe, or as close to it as possible, of content held by a library. Additionally, users can find high-quality content freely available to the world through the same single search box. While discovery systems' primary mission remains to connect users to the whole of a library's physical and electronic holdings through an easy-to-use, single box interface, during the past 5 years, they have evolved. Discovery systems have expanded to offer value-added features and functionality, greater integration with the library as a whole, additional support for successful searching, and recommenders of various sorts. These systems also integrate and display content in ways that, vendors hope, add value to the search process and demonstrate to the end user the value of not only the library's collections, but the library itself.
