Focus Stacking
Any depth of field and refocus in post-production

The method came from macro photography, where a small depth of field has always been a problem. So that the whole object was in focus, we had to take several frames with the focus shifted back and forth, then to sew them into one sharp one. The same method is often used by lovers of shooting landscapes, making the foreground and background sharp as diarrhea.

In 2013, the Nokia Lumia 1020 comes out with the “Refocus App”, and in 2014, the Samsung Galaxy S5 with the “ Selective Focus ” mode . They worked according to the same scheme: by pressing a button, they quickly took 3 photographs - one with a “normal” focus, the second with a forward one and a third with a backward one. The program aligned the frames and allowed you to choose one of them, which was presented as “real” focus management in post-production.

There was no further processing, because even this simple hack was enough to drive another nail into the lid of Lytro and its analogs with their honest refocus. By the way, let’s talk about them (transition wizard 80 lvl).
