过去将来时
公式:
谓语v. = would to 或 was/were going to do
用法:表示(过去的)将来的事
既然是表达过去的将来,所以要使用这个时态的时候,往往会在它的前面陪伴着一个过去时来作为它的触发点。
It was six o'clock. The postman [would come] soon.
was
就说明这表示过去的事。
He said that he [was going to propose] to his girlfriend.
said
就证明是过去说的。
区别:过去完成时 vs. 一般过去时 vs. 过去将来时
相同点:都表示过去。
不同点:在于先后顺序。
“过去完成时”表示“过去的之前发生的”,所以它肯定位于“一般过去时”的前面;
“过去将来时”表示的是“过去的将来”,所以这3个时态一块儿使用的话:第一个发生的肯定是“过去完成时”,第二个发生的是“一般过去时”,第三个发生的是“过去将来时”。
On Wednesday evening, we [went] to the Town Hall.
It was the last day of the year and a largecrowd of people [had gathered] under the Town Hall clock.
It [would strike] twelve in twenty minutes' time.
“我们去了市政大厅”用的是一般过去时:went
;
“很多人聚集”用的是过去完成时:had gathered
;
“钟敲12下”用的是过去将来时:would strike
。
因为:在我们去之前很多人就聚集了,在我们去之后钟将要敲12下。
