How to develop Smartphone 2003 applications on VS 2005
VS 2005 is a very powerful IDE for varied types of programs, including Smartphone 2003 and PocketPC 2003 support without installing any SDKs. However, the detail development environment configurations are different from EVC4.0. Below is the instruction for VS2 2005:
1. Test certification sign
You should install test certification through TestCert_Priviledged.pfx first from <install root>/Microsoft Visual Studio 8/SmartDevices/SDK/SDKTools/TestCertificates.
Now you can build and deploy your Smartphone 2003 application now. However, if you want to debug this application, it will fail! You will see a string like 'Unable to start program '%CSIDL_PROGRAM_FILES%/TestSP2003/TestSP2003.exe'. Operation not supported. Unknown error: 0x89731102.’ So you have to step into the next one. J
2. Enable device debug
There is 2 approaches to solve this issue. The first one asks you to sign emd.exe. The related operations are very complex. The second one is recommended: if you installed WM 5.0 SDKs, you can find SdkCerts.cab at <sdk install root>/Windows CE Tools/wce500/Windows Mobile 5.0 Smartphone SDK/Tools. Copy this file onto your device and install it. After you reboot your device, everything will be OK.
