SALOME CAE |
SALOME is a free CAE/FEA software that provides a generic platform for Pre and Post-Processing for numerical simulation. It is based on an open and flexible architecture made of reusable components available as free software. It is open-source (LGPL), and you can download both the sourcecode and the executables from this site. Main Functions * Create/modify, import/export (IGES, STEP), repair/clean CAD models * Mesh CAD elements, check mesh quality, import/export mesh (MED, UNV, ASCII) * Handle physical properties and quantities attached to geometrical items * Perform computation using one or more external solvers (coupling) * Display computation results (scalar, vectorial) * Manage studies (creation, save, reload)

|
LISA |
Free 1300 node limit license
The free 1300 node licenses are automatically registered with the program installation. For existing customers, upgrading to the latest version of LISA, their current LISA licenses will not be over-written by the new install.
CAD models
LISA does not have a CAD kernel like Parasolid or ACIS to recognize CAD entities like solids & surfaces, so you will not be able to import your CAD models into LISA. You will need to re-create your part using LISA's modelling tools.

FEMAP |
Femap is an engineering analysis pre- and postprocessor for the simulation of complex engineering problems using the finite element method. It runs on Microsoft Windows and provides CAD import, modeling and meshing tools to create a finite element model, as well as postprocessing functionality that allows mechanical engineers to interpret analysis results. The finite element method allows engineers to virtually model components, assemblies, or systems to determine behavior under a given set of boundary conditions, and is typically used in the design process to reduce costly prototyping and testing, evaluate differing designs and materials, and for structural optimization to reduce weight. Product simulation applications include basic strength analysis, frequency and transient dynamic simulation, system-level performance evaluation and advanced response, fluid flow and multi-physics engineering analysis for simulation of functional performance. Femap is easy to use.
Packaging powerful analysis functionality into an easy to use application is no mean feat, but Femap does just that. This means that you won’t have to spend weeks learning how to use it, and if you are an infrequent user of simulation, you’ll be able to rapidly pick it up again when you need to. IMPACT |
Impact is an open source finite element program suite which can be used to predict most dynamic events such as car crashes or metal sheet punch operations. They usually involve large deformations and high velocities. Simulations are made on a virtual three dimensional model which can be created with a pre-processor or with the built-in Fembic language. Results are viewed in a post-processor.
Impact is designed to interface with the included pre- and postprocessor by default, but there are also interfaces available for more advanced pre-and postprocessors such as GiD or Gmsh. Impact also has rudamentary support for Nastran file format.
Development is made by a team of volunteers from all over the world with the aim of creating a clean and compact program which is simple to understand and use. Impact is licensed under the Gnu Public License which makes it free to use and modify as long as you release and publish your improvements under the same license. Impact is written in Java which means it can be run on most hardware and operating systems. IMPACT home and download page |
GMSH |
Gmsh is an automatic 3D finite element grid generator with a built-in CAD engine and post-processor. Its design goal is to provide a simple meshing tool for academic problems with parametric input and advanced visualization capabilities.
Gmsh is built around four modules: geometry, mesh, solver and post-processing. The specification of any input to these modules is done either interactively using the graphical user interface or in ASCII text files using Gmsh's own scripting language. Gmsh is distributed under the terms of the GNU General Public License (GPL). Pre-compiled binaries are available for Windows (XP & Vista), Linux (Intel, glibc 2.3) and Mac OS X (10.5, Universal binary). Tutorial and demos files are included in all the archives. |
