Symptoms/Context

Trying to importing and/or opening project packages in SDL Trados Studio 2015 (or higher) is displaying the error message: Location is not available C:\System Volume Information is denied. Access is denied

Resolution

Check if drive/folder is available First what should be checked is if the drive is really accessible or maybe disconnected, corrupted or in any physical way damaged. If nothing applies, please follow the solution below. Reset Studio Settings   Close all SDL applications. Go to the following folder:NOTE: If you do not find this folder, make sure that these files are not hidden. See KB article Showing hidden files, folders and extensions on Windows operating systems Windows 7/8/10: SDL Trados Studio 2015: C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\12.0.0.0 SDL Trados Studio 2017: C:\Users\[USER_NAME]\AppData\Roaming\SDL\SDL Trados Studio\14.0.0.0 Rename the following XML files (for example, add an underscore before/after the file name): UserSettings.xml Restart Studio. Root Cause

This is usually caused by a corrupt UserSettings.xml However, it might be that the Drive/Folder is currently not available.
