Recently I do some testing work about the disk's performance, trying several benchmark tools.

IOzone: This tool tests the performance of specific file system, and the results may be different with different configures. How to use this tool, this can be refered to.
Bonnie++: Bonnie++ is a small but usefull tool, and also for testing the performance of a specific file system.. How to use this tool,this can be refered to.
hdparm: Hdparm is a linux tool, with it we can set some parameters for the disk, and also we can get some simple testing result, e.g. read speed. For how to use it, we can refer to this.
fio: Feng Yu has written something about fio here.
iometer: On ubuntu platform, this introduces how to use it.
