Vietnam: Footwear Exports to Reach $300mn in July

Vietnam's footwear exports rose in July to reach $300 million in revenue, a 20 percent rise comparing the same period of last year, informs Ministry of Trade.

Total export turnover for the initial seven months of this year was over $1.7 billion, and the industry is likely to reach export turnover of $3.4 billion this year, despite the dumping suit was filed against Vietnamese producers by European footwear makers.

The ministry credited the optimistic performance to entry in Netherlands, Taiwan, Japan and South Africa markets, and the constant rise in prices.

The Netherlands imported $1.5 million of Vietnamese shoe in July, which was about double the June figure, and since July 2004 prices on the market increased by over $1 per pair of shoes, to $20.3.

Vietnam’s earning reached nearly $500,000 from the Japanese market in each of the past three months, double the average monthly revenue in the first quarter.

The Vietnamese Trade Mission in Africa informed that the country's footwear exports to that nation registered steep rise this year, earning $5.81 million in the first four months, a year-on-year increase of 175 percent.

Exports to Vietnam's traditional footwear markets of China, Italy, the UK and Canada also registered rise over the first seven months.
