Technote (troubleshooting)
Problem(Abstract)
An IBM® WebSphere® Portal install fails with this error message in ConfigTrace.log: "EJPIC0047E: The installation path must be 256 characters or less". This technote applies only to UNIX® systems. There is 256 character limit on Microsoft® Windows®. The Portal installer checks for the file path length regardless of operating system. Since there is no file path length limit on non-Windows operating system environments, this technote will help bypass this file path length check.
Symptom
The Portal 6.1 install will fail with this error in ConfigTrace.log:
As mentioned before this is a limitation of Portal 6.1 installer. It will check the longest possible file path length it will use during the install, if it will exceed 256 characters then the install will fail. As noted before there is no file path length limitation on non-Windows environments. If you are on a Windows environment then please check the file path specified in the error stack trace to determine if in fact the file path is less that 256 characters.
Resolving the problem
To bypass the issue, you can launch the Portal installer using this flag:
ProfilePathLengthCheckSequenceUnix.active=false
It will look this: "install.sh -W ProfilePathLengthCheckSequenceUnix.active=false"
