Goal

This document explains how to check if "Font Subsetting" or "Font Embedding" has been used by Oracle Reports when generating a PDF output .

For non Latin-1 charactersets, it is necessary to use Font Subsetting or Font Embedding in order to display non Latin-1 characters in the PDF generated by Oracle Reports.

If some "Non latin-1" characters are not correctly displayed in the PDF output generated by Oracle Reports , the first step is to check if "Font Subsetting" or "Font Embedding" has been used by Oracle Reports when generating the PDF output.

Solution

Acrobat Reader provides a command to display the Fonts used in a PDF document .

File -> Properties ...

The shortcut CTRL-D can be used to display the Document Properties dialog box.

The tab "Fonts" in the Document Properties dialog box will display the fonts used in the PDF document.

Acrobat Reader will display different icons if the Font is Subset / Embedded or not .
