• System Utilities

Although this powerful and highly-customizable product does now provide some instructions, many of its features are hidden or poorly explained. If YOU can add anything, please don't hesitate to edit this Article or add Comments. It'll be much appreciated.

Installation

(a) Go to the QT TabBar site and download the ZIP file.

(b) Locate the downloaded file; it's called something like QTTabBar_glb_1.1.0.1.zip.

(c) Double-click the ZIP file and extract the contents to a folder named QTTabBar on your desktop.

(d) Close the ZIP file and open the folder QTTabBar. Double-click the file QTTabBar.exe to install QTTabBar. When installing, accept the defaults.

(e) After installation, log off and then login again or reboot your PC.

(f) Open My Documents, click View / Toolbars. If there is a check against Lock Toolbars then click to unlock the toolbars

(g) Click View / Toolbars and select QT TabBar to enable that toolbar. If necessary, check QT Standard buttons.

On Vista, press <Alt> to show the menu bar beforehand.

(h) After a few seconds the QT TabBar appears. You can use the handles to drag and drop the TabBar if necessary.
If the Toolbar menus are grayed so you can't click them, check: Internet Options" -> "Programs" -> "Manage Add-ons…" and make sure that "QTTabBar" is enabled.
If you can't see QTTabBar on toolbar menu, check:
"Internet Options" -> "Advanced" -> "Browsing" -> and make sure Enable third-party browser extensions is enabled.

(i) Click View / Toolbars to relock.

You should also find that QTTabBar has been added to the Windows Task Bar (just to the right of the "Notification Area").

  If you can't see this, toggle Toolbar Locking.

Right-click on the above to access several View and Configuration options.

 

(j) Uninstallation
Move the folder QTTabBar from your desktop to somewhere safe such as c:\Backup just in case you want to uninstall the product. How do you uninstall it? By installing again and selecting the uninstall option.

Tabs Control & Features

The most frequently-used Tools are probably:

The left one clones the current Explorer window.

The right tool copies the current Explorer window.

The tools illustrated below provide full tab-handling capabilities. 

You can open new Tabs by:

• Dragging and dropping a folder onto the tab bar
• Double-clicking a folder shortcut on your desktop

You can easily navigating between open tabs by clicking the tabs on the tab bar. You can also re-order tabs by dragging and dropping.

Options

QT TabBar makes a huge effort to hide its Options settings (which are really pretty vital), but they can be found !
In the example below, you need to click between the Search Box ("Public") and the start of the QTTabBar toolbar.
(You may need to "Unlock the Toolbar" first.)

Then click Options to display:

This product is very customizable, but don't be overwhelmed by this plethora of possibilities. Start with the out-of-the-box default settings, and then gradually customize it to suit you.

Double-click on an empty part of your Desktop to display:
