oracle中的&变量和'&变量'

今天碰到个&变量赋值的问题。

declare
uid number(10);
begin
uid:=&x;
end;

当&x输入为空时报如下错
ORA-06550: 第 5 行, 第 9 列:
PLS-00103: Encountered the symbol ";" when expecting one of the following:

( - + case mod new not null <an identifier>
<a double-quoted delimited-identifier> <a bind variable>
continue avg count current exists max min prior sql stddev
sum variance execute forall merge time timestamp interval
date <a string literal with character set specification>
<a number> <a single-quoted SQL string> pipe
<一个带有字符集说明的可带引号的字符串文字>
<一个可带引号的 SQL

当&x输入为字符时报如下错
ORA-06550: 第 6 行, 第 25 列:
PLS-00306: wrong number or types of arguments in call to 'V'
ORA-06550: 第 6 行, 第 4 列:
PL/SQL: Statement ignored

而当将&x改为'&x'时，
uid:='&x';
无论输入空还是字符都可以正常赋值。

所以实验证明&变量要求输入为数值，而且不能为空。
加上单引号'&变量'则可以输入任意字符。
